Epower Technology proudly announces the development of the first 15kVA 400V (3) / 800V four-port DC-DC converter, capable of bidirectional operation and engineered to interface with any DC load or inverter, providing unmatched flexibility for energy storage, microgrids, and renewable energy integration. This converter is the industry’s first to leverage AI-based and traditional control together, allowing autonomous power management and optimized port performance.

The First GaN-Based Quad Active Bridge Converter

Epower Technology has a patent-pending power conversion system for commercial and industrial nearly net-zero buildings, microgrids, and data centers. The system features a Quad-Active-Bridge (QAB) Converter with four bidirectional, galvanically isolated DC ports and a plug-and-play modular inverter. The inverter operates autonomously on- or off-grid and can connect to any QAB port. The inverter delivers superior flexibility for networking in a microgrid, while the QAB remains fully inverter-agnostic for broad compatibility. The system’s prototype achieves an exceptional power density of 5kW/kg. This compact, modular, and intelligent platform reduces installation and maintenance costs. The company is now seeking strategic partners and pilot funding to demonstrate the technology in microgrids and energy-efficient buildings, integrating solar, battery storage, EV charging, and dynamic loads.

Utilizing GaN and SiC semiconductors alongside planar transformer technology results in compact and efficient energy management.

Advantage: Ensures ultra-compact design, low energy loss with better thermal management, and the volume and cost reductions of approximately 40% compared to hybrid PV inverters.

• Galvanic Isolation and Safety

Features a planar transformer to control energy flow across sources and ensure electrical separation for safety.

Advantage: Enables safe connection of various energy sources with diverse grounding requirements, crucial for EV charging and other applications.

• Bidirectional Power Flow

Incorporates advanced control and switching for two-way energy transfer between batteries and the utility grid.

Advantage: Enhances power flow flexibility in utilizing energy storage units and grid power as needed.

• Autonomous Operation

Applies an auto-sync control scheme to enable smooth transitions between on-grid (GFL) and off-grid (GFM) modes.

Advantage: Provides uninterrupted energy management without installing any communication lines.
